A Slumber Did My Spirit Seal
                       William Wordsworth
A slumber did my spirit seal;
I had no human fears;
She seemed a thing thaat could not feel
The touch of earthly years.

No motion has she now,no force;
She neither hears nor sees;
Rolled round in earth's diurnal course,
With rocks,and stones,and trees.

我已无人间的担惊受怕;

如今她毫无气力,漠然不动;
她既听不见,也看不见;

In Memoriam
             Alfred  Tennyson

I envy not in any moods
  The captive void of noble rage,
  The linnet born within the cage,
That never knew the summer woods;

I envy not the beast that takes
  His license in the field of time,
  Unfettered by the sense of crime,
To whom a conscience never wakes;

Nor,what may count itself as blest,
  The heart that never plighted troth
  But stagnates in the weeds of sloth;
Nor any want-begotten rest.

I hold it true,whate'er befall;
  I feel it,when I sorrow most;
  'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

    它如囚徒似的缺乏高贵的愤怒,
    它像笼中出生的鸟把自我禁锢,
它从不懂得夏林的可爱;

    它在自己的时限内放纵,
    不因犯罪感而约束行动,
也从不因良心有所觉醒;

    那从未作过盟誓的心
    却在劣汰中意志消沉;

If I Can Stop One Heart from Breaking
                            Emily Dickinson

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
   I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
   Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
   Unto his nest again,
   I shall not live in vain.

    我就没有虚度此生;

She at His Funeral
              Thomas Hardy
They bear him to his resting place-----
  In slow procession sweeping by,
I follow at a stranger's space,
  His kindred they,his sweetheart I.

Unchanged by gown of garish dye,
  Though sable-sad is their attire,
But they stand round with griefless eye,
  Whilst my regret consumes like fire!

The Bride
                   David Herbert Lawrence

My love looks like a girl to-night,
   But she is old.
The plaits that lie along her pillow
   Are not gold,
But threaded with filigree silver,
   And uncanny cold.

She looks like a young maiden,since her brow
  Is smooth and fair,
Her cheeks are very smooth,her eyes are closed.
  She sleeps a rare
Still winsome sleep,so still,and so composed.

Nay,but she sleeps like a bride,and dreams her dreams
  of perfect things.
She lies at last,the darling,in the shape of her dream,
  And her dead mouth sings
By its shape,like the thrushes in clear evenings.
